Peepli Live is an upcoming Hindi film which is produced by Aamir Khan. The movie has been directed and written by first-time filmmaker, Anusha Rizvi, a former journalist herself. The film is presented under the banner Aamir Khan Productions and UTV Motion Pictures. The movie has been tagged as a savage attack on the media and politicians’ response to farmers’ suicide. This is the first feature film for most of the actors who appear in the film but several have a background in theatre. The main stars of the movie includes: Raghubir Yadav, Omkar Das Manikpuri, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Malaika Shenoy along with a number of newcomers. Actors Naseeruddin Shah and Aamir Bashir will be seen in an brief appearance. Peepli Live is set to release on August 13, 2010.

Peepli Live is a satire, a black comedy about rural life in India. In a tiny corner of a giant country a poor farmer is about to lose everything. His brother has a plan to win it all back! Natha (Omkar Das Manikpuri) a poor pot-smoking farmer from Peepli village in the heart of rural India is about to lose his plot of land due to an unpaid government loan. A quick fix to the problem is the very same government's program that aids the families of indebted farmers who have committed suicide. The family is about to lose their land because they are unable to repay a loan, when, they hear of a government programme which offers the family of any farmer committing suicide a compensation of rupees 100,000 ($2000). ‘Peepli Live’ tries to tackle some of the real-life problems of farmer suicides in the rural parts of India. The land ownership problems have been portrayed in a very humorous and witty fashion.
