Paris Checks Into Jail Early

Paris Hilton went straight from being lambasted to her face at the MTV Movie Awards to being incarcerated in the Century Regional Detention Facility.

Yes kids, we all got what we wanted - Paris is in jail. She snuck off to her parents' house right after the awards, then was driven to the Men's Central Jail in L.A. where she officially surrendered. After that she was transported to the CRDF, booked and strip-searched, and introduced to the cell she will be calling home for the next 23 days (give or take).

Reportedly, it was the Sheriff's idea to describe this circuitous route to the jail - to evade paparazzi. We'll see as the day goes forward, and the pics start trickling in, whether this worked. Also, law enforcement officials say that, contrary to initial reports, Paris will not have a cell mate. She will be alone in her cell 23 hours a day, while being allowed one hour of TV, shower and phone time in an adjoining "pod."

Question - does every other prisoner have one of these pods? Seems like the jail would have to be awfully large for everyone to get a pod. I guess this is part of the "special needs" deal Paris is getting - because they're so worried she'll get beaten up if she mixes with the general population. Judging by the cheers Sarah Silverman received at the Movie Awards last night for making fun of Paris, I think there's a good chance she would get her ass kicked. Then again, this does raise the whole "special treatment" issue. I guess, from law enforcement's point of view, it's just a practical matter. If something bad happens to Paris who gets sued? They're covering their own asses more than looking out for Paris.

Clarification: One of my readers has been nice enough to point out what a pod actually is. The pod, apparently, is a clutch of cells which have their own common area. Not having any experience with the inside of a jail myself, I had no idea what the pod was. I feel better knowing that Paris doesn't get her own pod.

So Paris will be congregating with other prisoners in this common area, for one hour a day. I'm assuming these pod assignments are given out based on whether people are perceived as being potentially violent? So Paris is probably being kept with all the other well-off (white) prisoners, who they know won't smack her around. Too bad. I was hoping she was going to need extensive dental reconstruction by the end of this.
