Their Guilt Will Go On

German critics are ga-ga for Quentin Tarantino's crazy over-the-top Jews-scalping-Nazis revenge fantasy Inglourious Basterds.

"Tarantino shows the Nazis as they really were: a pack of pompous trash -- thoroughly trivial bad guys," said one German reviewer. And another: "It took 65 years for a film-maker, instead of bringing Germany's evil 20th century history to life once more to have people shudder and bow before it, to simply dream around it. And to mow all the pigs down. Catharsis! Oxygen! Wonderful retro-futuristic insanity of the imagination!"

American critics have been somewhat less enthusiastic; Jeffrey Wells even said of the movie that it amounts to Tarantino sticking his own finger in his ass and sniffing it for 2-and-a-half hours.

Clearly, the German critics are speaking from some place deep down in the national psyche, some bottomless well of received guilt. Any movie that trashes Nazis is going to be seized upon as something positive. So we'll know that the Germans have purged their souls of that stuff forever and we don't have to fear or hate them anymore.

But we know the Germans are good now and want peace. It's the fucked-up Americans we have to worry about. And those shifty Turks.

Don't Believe It

Star
is going with this nonsense (via Dlisted) about Brad Pitt messing around on Angelina with Diane Kruger, an actress he stars with in Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds (again, Quentin's spelling). "Angie loves Brad and wants to trust him, but she also knows that their own love blossomed while working on a movie together," a source said. "Now she's convinced that Diane has a crush on Brad, and she's scared something could happen." Yeah? Like what? He could suddenly desire a woman who isn't stuck on herself? Who doesn't carry his balls around in a little sack like musketeers used to use for their powder? Who doesn't expect him to spend the rest of his life being swarmed by filthy orphans from every corner of the globe? Gosh, I don't know why he would want anyone but Angelina. She's so undemanding.

Inglorious Bastard

The first picture of Brad Pitt in Tarantino's Inglorious Bastards. Okay. Great.

Update: Apparently this film is going to be called Inglourious Basterds - intentional misspelling - some Tarantino wit - Death Proof sucked sack but I liked Kill Bill - wish Quentin would do a romantic-comedy.

Britney + Tarantino = What the Fuh?

Quentin Tarantino
has his heart set on casting Britney Spears as killer lesbian stripper Varla in his remake of the Russ Meyer boobstravaganza Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill! "Quentin is convinced Britney will be brilliant. She’s delighted. She thinks it could turn her career around," a source said. "It is perfect Tarantino material. He wanted to get Britney first. She’s playing the most important character."

This is not a shocking development given Tarantino's history of questionable casting decisions. Bridget Fonda? John Travolta? Pretty much everyone in Death Proof? Of course it's just a stunt...and it's not even an original stunt (maybe Tarantino doesn't watch a lot of sitcoms). Lindsay would be much better; she's good at funny flirtatiousness. What can Britney do besides prance around shaking her flabby stuff? Maybe that's why Tarantino wants her...he's staying true to the vision of Russ Meyer. It seems like a bad idea to me at any rate.

Tarantino Wants Britney And Kardashian

Quentin Tarantino is hot to do a re-make of '60s boob-fetishist fave Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill! No biggie there - all Tarantino makes are homages to movies that sucked the first time. Here's the kicker though: Quentin is reportedly dying to cast Britney Spears and Kim Kardashian as two of his campy, big-bazoomed stars.

Oh Quentin, are you some kind of glutton for punishment? Casting Britney Spears in a movie? You really think she's gonna show up on time? Remember her lines? Not pass out every ten minutes?

And Kim Kardashian - yeah, that's what the world needs, someone to validate this useless whore even more. Why not fill out the cast with Lauren Conrad, Kristin Cavallari and Omarosa? Actually, I might be willing to see that movie - as long as it included some excruciating torture scenes. Omarosa stretched on a rack? Cavallari waterboarded? Conrad covered in fire-ants? This has potential.
