The marketing push behind Barack Obama has been fabulous. Of course it helps to have a lot of celebrity endorsements. Beyonce is on-board as we see. The t-shirts are becoming like Che Guevara shirts now...Obama is becoming iconic in a way that has nothing to do with politics or history but is pure shallow fashion statement. "Look how cool I am...I've got Barack on my shirt." How does John McCain stand a chance against this kind of cultural groundswell? Yeah, I know...never underestimate the Republican machine. They'll hold their nose and support McCain, a guy they hate, because they know he's only going to stay in four years anyway. They'll pressure him into choosing some arch right-winger as his running-mate so they can run that person in 2012 against Hillary (who will easily win the nomination via guilt-trip over Dems' rejection of her this year). That will be the price McCain has to pay for getting the machine behind him. They could still derail Barack.
