Splash News has gotten their grubby hands on a videotape of Anna Nicole Smith being given CPR by paramedics outside the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. According to their website, Entertainment Tonight has already shelled out "a fortune" to acquire said tape, and Splash themselves are planning on posting the footage next Tuesday (their licensing agreement with ET apparently prevents them from showing it any earlier). But even a sleazy operation like Splash seems to include some people with a hint of shame - at least that's how it seems, given how they've tied themselves in knots trying to justify their plans to profit from the snuff film:
Splash blog fans (and not) we’re getting a kicking about this video, but let's face it, everyone wants to see it…ET just spent a fortune on it…watch the show. Are all of you going to bash them for showing it? I doubt it. TMZ had a video of her dead body covered in a blanket posted on their blog, are you guys bashing them? I doubt that too. Are all of you going to be watching it? Definitely. Next time before all of you freak out look in the mirror. Why are there so many blogs, television shows, and magazines solely devoted to celebrities? Why are the 24-hour news channels running ANS material non-stop? Why is ANS the top story on every news broadcast? Because of you.
Just run the tape if you're going to run the tape - stop trying to deflect everyone's criticism of you by using the old "we wouldn't do it if the public didn't want it" bullshit. The public used to enjoy hangings too, but you don't see too many gallows standing in town-squares. If it doesn't bother your soul to make money off someone's death, then stop sweating it - you are what you are. And it is what it is. So shut your fat self-justifying yaps already.
