Nicole Richie's lawyers were unable to get her DUI trial postponed, so they're in court today mulling a plea deal. This news comes on the heels of reports that Richie's lawyers planned using an expert witness to challenge the drug test Nicole took after being arrested. Richie herself is in Canada with boyfriend Joel Madden who is on-tour with his band. This all seems rather anti-climactic to me, coming on the heels of the Paris Hilton jail drama. Poor Nicole - no one cares that she's pregnant, or that she's engaged, or that she might get sent to the clink. Why the hell am I even writing about her?

Update: Nicole Richie has been granted a continuance after all. She will not have to appear in court until August 16. At that time, her lawyers are expected to challenge the drug test, with the help of expert witness Dr. Terence McGee.
