You wouldn't know it to look at her, but Victoria Beckham is a huge fan of classic English literature. Austen, Hardy, Dickens - she loves them all. And soon Poshy's new L.A. girlfriends, including Jennifer Lopez and Katie Holmes, will get a taste of those famous scribes as well, via Poshy's new once-a-month book-club.
Yes, Poshy is starting a book club. She thinks it will help her bond with her new friends in America. And apparently her friends are excited about this too - especially Katie Holmes, who expressed a keen interest when Poshy raised the idea. Said the Daily Mail's inside source:
When Victoria told Katie about a book club, Katie thought it was a great idea, especially as she would love to learn more about British classics.
Yes. And who better to teach about British classics than Poshy? A woman who, just a couple years ago, bragged about never having read a book in her life.
Oh, you'd forgotten about that. Well, let me refresh your memory then. Here is what Poshy said to the Spanish magazine Chic in 2005:
I haven't read a book in my life. I don't have the time. ... I prefer listening to music, although I do love fashion magazines.
Okay. So Poshy hadn't read a book in her life as of 2005, but in the months since then, she's become a devotee of Austen, Hardy and Dickens. I guess she managed to find a lot of time all of a sudden. Funny, but given all the pictures that are taken of Poshy, you'd think there'd be at least one of them featuring her holding a book. Oh, wait, there is? Let's see it:
Oh, well, I stand corrected. Poshy is obviously a literary maven. I'm sure it will be great fun, when the book club meets to discuss Hardy's Jude the Obscure. The tale of a lone man pitted against a callous society and its unjust mores. I'm sure there will be much lamenting the fate of Jude and his tragic lover Sue - in between sips of chardonnay and discussions of the new boots they just got in at Barneys.
