Donald Trump may be ahead in points in the on-going battle with Rosie O'Donnell, which has now seen Rosie's View boss, Barbara Walters, getting dragged into the fray. And why do I say Donald is ahead? Because every time Rosie or Barbara manages to get a jab in, Donald comes right back with a big ol' haymaker (don't you just love it when Crabbie employs pugilistic metaphors?).
The latest attempt by the Rosie/Barbara tag-team to score a knock-out of Trump came this morning on The View (video link). First Barbara came at Donald, calling him "a poor, pathetic man," then Rosie herself chimed in, saying Donald was "obsessed with her," and expressing delight at the fact that the latest episode of his show The Apprentice was a flop in the ratings. The whole exchange appeared phony and scripted, and Rosie and Barbara both looked a bit haggard. Could Trump's unrelenting assault be taking its toll?
And what of the Donald? He would appear to still be fresh and sharp. At least his writing-hand is. Yup, the Donald has come back at his adversaries with yet another letter. Here's a taste of it:
Barbara Walters has taken the low road for the sake of her show rather than the sake of her morality. She lied with Star Jones and now she has chosen to lie again. She refused to discuss my recent letter because she knows it's true -- and so does Rosie. They didn't even have the courage to mention me by name. It was so sad to see Barbara read her statement off a cue card. Rosie pushed her out like a ("pathetic") puppet.Barbara has become a sad figurehead dominated by a third-rate comedian and I now wish she had not recently chosen me as one of the "10 Most Fascinating People."
Rosie lied once again by incorrectly referencing The Apprentice ratings. Nielsen showed The Apprentice was # 1 from 10:30 to 11:00 pm in all of television.
Trump makes a good point here - Barbara Walters really is starting to look like Rosie's puppet. I think it might be time for Babs to cut the fat cow loose. And apparently that may be ready to happen. According to Roger Friedman, Rosie will likely opt not to re-sign with the show once her contract expires in June. The only way Friedman sees Rosie coming back is if the View producers put Barbara out to pasture and invite Rosie back as moderator. If that happens, then Rosie should just send half her paycheck to Donald, because he will have been the reason she got the job (I smell conspiracy theory).
On a sidenote: The Rosie v. Donald feud has gotten so violent that innocent bystanders are now getting caught in the cross-fire. Like Conan O'Brien, who made the mistake of asking Donald about the Rosie issue last night on his show. Donald claimed that Conan agreed not to ask about Rosie, but Conan denied cutting any such deal. Here's some video of that (Trump appears pretty good-natured about the whole thing if you ask me).
