Rosie O'Donnell and Donald Trump's public feud has gotten a bit stale the last week or so - no more tirades from Donald, no more incomprehensible blog posts from Rosie. But never fear, feud-watchers - all the animosity train needed to get rolling again was a little extra steam in the engine, and that steam has been provided courtesy of that venerable TV institution Barbara Walters.
Yes, Barbara, the once-respected journalist and interviewer who, for some reason, decided to undermine her own image by becoming associated with that insufferable daily gab-fest known as The View. She's become the latest target of Rosie O'Donnell's wrath. According to Page 6, the whole dust-up began when Barbara sauntered into the backstage area of The View Monday morning after a vacation and attempted to give Rosie a welcoming hug (she'd need orangutan arms for that you'd think). Rosie, having none of that, reportedly jerked away from Walters' attempted embrace, shouting, "You kept me in the newspapers this whole time," which is odd, since it would seem Rosie herself was responsible for that. Barbara, attempting to be an adult, rebutted Rosie's accusation, saying, "I did everything I could to squash the story," to which Rosie angrily replied, "You didn't call me for 10 goddamn days, and you didn't tell me what you were going to say on television!"
There's probably a reason she didn't call you Rosie - because she doesn't want to talk to you. The sound of your voice probably makes her physically ill (like it does the rest of us). And by the way, I think I recall Walters actually supporting you when she addressed the matter. In fact, here were Barbara's exact words:
Donald Trump ... said that I am not happy with my decision to bring Rosie O'Donnell to this table. Nothing could be further from the truth. I have never regretted, nor do I now, the hiring of Rosie O'Donnell.
But, apparently, that wasn't good enough for Rosie. She wanted Barbara to go after Trump harder. "You've crossed the line," O'Donnell is reported to have said to Walters. "Cameras are now outside of my house where my wife and kids are. ... You went all around this and never called [Trump] a liar. You never said, 'Donald is lying.' You never called him a liar."
Maybe the reason Barbara never called Donald a liar, Rosie, is because she has more tact than you. And maybe deep down inside Barbara is really on Donald's side in this. Actually, according to Trump, she is on his side in this. We know because Trump sent a letter to Rosie this morning, a copy of which has been acquired by nearly every major outlet. And here is the text of that letter, which addresses the reported fireworks between Rosie and her employer:
Dear Rosie,
I hope you had a wonderful vacation with your wife -- you needed the rest.
An article in today's New York Post indicates that you blew up at Barbara Walters for being a 'liar.' Actually, I don't blame you, but in fact she lied to both of us! After your maniacal and foolish rant against me two weeks ago, Barbara called me from her vacation (I did not call her) in order to apologize for your behavior. She had heard that I was going to retaliate against you and tried to talk me out of it. She very much wanted me to go on the show as soon as she got back so that she could 'patch things up' (I said no). To be exact, she said that 'working with her is like living in hell' and, more pointedly, 'Donald, never get into the mud with pigs' and, 'don't worry, she won't be here for long.' Barbara knows exactly what she told me over the phone and she has to live with it. Perhaps that's why her initial statement was so mild!
In another incident, when I saw her eating at Le Cirque about two months ago and asked how 'Rosie was doing,' she sarcastically rolled her eyes and said 'Donald, do you have to ruin my meal.'
In any event, you have a good reason to be angry. Please give my warmest regards to Kelly!
Sincerely, Donald J. Trump
P.S.
I was surprised that you let your spat with Barbara get into the newspapers, but, as I have always said and as you proved with Rosie, the magazine, you are very self destructive. You must work on this for your own good!
Now, you tell me - why would Donald Trump lie and say Barbara trashed Rosie to him? He's got no reason to. Obviously, Walters hates Rosie's guts. And obviously Rosie's days on The View are numbered (unless the brass at ABC love the ratings so much that they force Walters to retain her, in which case I could easily see Walters saying fuck it and retiring herself - at this age she hardly needs the aggravation). I don't know about you, but I'm in hog-heaven with this feud. Donald is such a vicious bastard, who will say anything about anyone, and Rosie is such a seethingly angry person that nearly any small jibe sends her into a complete tailspin of rage. And imagine being Barbara Walters, and suddenly having all this crap to deal with? God, I hope it never ends (until Rosie just can't take it anymore and shoots Trump with a sniper rifle).
